Well, one thing is for sure, when it comes to oil painting, there was A LOT I didn’t know. Now when I say a lot, I mean a lot, it was almost overwhelming.

This cast painting is now on it’s fifth incarnation, I believe, and everything about it has been daunting for me. I never knew exactly how much information needed to be processed in order to make a great painting.

Update of the Ear Cast Painting

Edges, values, relationships, color temperature, paint consistency, amount of paint on the brush, keeping a dark brush, light brush, opaqueness or transparency of the paint, it’s almost maddening.

I think I’m starting to figure this stuff out, but I’ll tell you one thing, if I have to scrape down and repaint this ear one more time, I’m going to go mad and cut my own damn ear off.
